Team London were lucky enough to attend a talk during LDF about the Ally Capellino project ‘Bums on Seat’s’ in collaboration with photographer Donald Christie and furniture designer Rupert Blanchard. Chaired by Culture Show Editor Janet Lee the expert panel discussed the role of wit in design, the origin and history of the iconic tubular chair (it quickly became obvious why Rupert Blanchard had recently acquired the moniker ‘chair geek’) and how it was all brought to life with a little clever photography.
The eight chairs had been lovingly crafted and customised to a range of seating positions including Knees Up, Lady, Legs Together and Neat. They were all on display and being heavily tested while amused guests tried hard to work out which ‘version’ fit them best. The panel agreed that ‘Left Leaning’ was their favourite version due to the scope for multiple interpretation and we tended to agree!
