Colour palettes are vital for branding. They set the scene and are used to enhance and support the brand values that we are conveying through our design work. Colour, when used properly, offers a brand an extremely powerful way of communicating its core messages without the use of copy. For example, when working on Spiral Cellars brand, the extended palette needs to reflect the brand’s sophistication.

Recently, I’ve been working on several brand refresh projects, reviewing and expanding the brand colour palette, repositioning the core brand messaging it conveys for use across the marketing mix. While researching the use of colour for the schemes I came across this infographic, The 10 Commandments of Colour Theory, it’s a useful tool, and one I’ve referred to since, to keep me on track when I’m considering the rationale for my choices.
