Snapchat or Snap Inc. as they’re now known, has unveiled the company’s long-rumoured glasses project, Spectacles or Specs for short.

They’ve revealed that Spectacles are a set of $130 sunglasses with integrated video camera and a 115-degree lens.

Content recorded using the glasses is pushed to the Memories section of the Snapchat app in a new circular video format via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Don’t think for a minute this is another Google Glass launch. With Snapchats audience primarily being teens, Specs are firmly targeted towards them. The sunglasses come in a variety of colours and designs. They look simple but stylish but the price point really makes it something that’s on par with a pair of Ray-Bans.

Removing the friction from using Snapchat and having the ability to share without taking your phone out of your pocket is something that really will drive greater engagement. If the early adopters take to this how long will it be before we see other channels follow suit?
