You’d usually expect to find a mood ring on a teenage girl’s finger, not standing 135m tall in the heart of London.

But the London Eye is about to be transformed and become possibly the largest mood ring in the world, as it showcases the Twitter sentiment surrounding the Olympics.

Every night its 30 minute light show will be themed around the nation’s Olympic twitter mood from that day.

Through linguistic analysis, all UK-based tweets that reference various Olympic themed #tags and phrases are being assessed. Using an algorithm, the level of positive and negative emotion will be analysed, with the day’s prevailing sentiment reflected in that night’s light show.

Now, we are pretty extensive in our analysis of social media campaigns and key performance indicators, but we’ve never tried this one before…
