Recently, I’ve noticed a number of big brands taking on ‘flat design’.  Although it’s not necessarily a new trend, it’s one that’s been gradually growing over the last couple of years because flat designs register well in any browsing device – they load faster as there are no patterns, textures, shadows or gradients.

These type of visuals are also impressive in print form – they are clean, contemporary and easy for people to identify.

One company that refreshed it’s visual identity in this way (without even creating a stir with its 75 million subscribers) was Netflix.  The global streaming site moved away from its 3D logo on a red background to a more streamlined piece of text, but still retained the iconic curve along the bottom.

So simple, yet so strong, I’ve got no doubt that these flat designs will stand the test of time.
