Inspired by the DOC
As a graphic designer I am inspired by great art, design, architecture and photography. I follow the work of artists with a keen interest, with Liverpool-based Danny O’Connor (aka DOC) among my favourites.
Best known for the strong graphic element visible in his paintings, DOC takes influences from character design, comics, illustration and graffiti art.
The images are built up layer upon layer, which gives them great depth of field, and created with an arsenal of tools including paint, correction fluid, ink, charcoal and graphite. All are applied in an equally diverse manner using brushes, fingers, paint rollers, sticks and spray – the result is visually striking works of art that are full of energy, many with an almost hypnotic appearance.
