With over sixteen years of experience working with retail and Interiors clients, it’s safe to say the Cool Blue team can’t help but get excited by beautiful furniture and product design. So the arrival of this year’s Northern Design Festival couldn’t come soon enough, a chance to indulge in a visual plethora of graphic design, architecture, furniture, lighting, fashion, fabrics and ceramics.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the event is taking place at The Assembly House in Newcastle upon Tyne, a magnificent Grade II listed building which is open to the public as a one-off for the festival. For those who thrive on perfectly curated interior spaces there is plenty to engage and inspire, including Newcastle-based designer David Irwin’s installation, showing fifty of his M Lamps. Having had the pleasure of working alongside David many moons ago when he was a Designer in Residence at Northumbria University, it’s very hard not to get excited and a tad nostalgic at this year’s festival.
Other highlights include the likes of NODE, who are displaying a range of rugs by leading designers and illustrators, including designs by Sanna Annukka, Geoff McFetridge, Jon Klassen, Oliver Jeffers and Co-founder and author/illustrator of award-winning children’s books Chris Haughton, as someone who’s made to read his stories every night, it was great hear him in action.
The Northern Design Festival has year after year, brought together an amalgamation of talent in a way that allows us to enjoy design and innovation on a whole new level, so if you’re around, we highly recommend that you pop along.
The Northern Design Festival is taking place this week at The Assembly House, Newcastle from until Sunday 25th October.
