When ads mean more

Once in a while an ad comes around that does more than promote a product; it pulls at the heartstrings and makes such a statement that it’s gone viral within days.

Powerful ads automatically lend themselves to great PR, as is the case with the new Duracell commercial.

It stars Derrick Coleman, the first deaf offensive player to ever play in the NFL, and recounts the adversities he’s experienced to get him where he is today.

It may sound like a sporting cliché, but his story is unique and the commercial poignant. Despite being an American ad, it’s resonated with people all over the world and has been viewed over 5.5 million times on YouTube in just six days.

It’s also a social media sensation with over 1.7 million shares on Facebook and Twitter – statistics that every commercial company dreams of, especially in such a short space of time.

Time will only tell how the ad will affect sales but, one thing is certain, when it comes to advertising it pays to be creative.
