We started by launching the proposed plans at a Newcastle Civic Centre exhibition, inviting media, councillors and the public to attend. With a visually impressive 15m display as its centrepiece, the launch attracted significant press and TV coverage as well as hundreds of visitors.

During the consultation process, we secured a steady flow of media stories and kept key stakeholders such as the Reopen Newcastle Turkish Baths group closely involved. Social media was used to great effect, building a highly engaged online Facebook community in less than a year.

Cool Blue’s campaign will continue engaging with stakeholders and potential customers until the City Pool reopens in 2018.

Solutions and results

Our approach led to Fusion Lifestyle successfully gaining planning permission in 2016.

Not ones to settle, we used the news as an opportunity to celebrate the iconic venue, securing further coverage across regional media.

Before construction began, we also showcased the plans further by arranging hard-hat tours of the building, resulting in further coverage on BBC Newcastle and BBC Breakfast.
