Our two-year Go Digital Newcastle campaign was eye-catching, smart and successful, attracting interest from hundreds of difficult to reach small and medium businesses in the city.

Campaign rationale came from the idea of giving the business community, residents and visitors to Newcastle superpowers in the form of superfast broadband.

A superhero theme and slogans “Local hero to superhero”, “WWWhoosh!” and “Ready to turbo-boost your business?” were adopted to create a head-turning campaign to attract attention and buy-in.

Fun imagery of children dressed as superheroes was used on collateral including bus rears, banner ads, leaflets, billboards, stickers and press ads – in phase two, our real adult ambassadors happily donned capes and masks for marketing materials!

Solutions and results

Just months into the campaign, the website was attracting hundreds of business users and prompting connection voucher applications.

Newcastle City Council has been delighted to work with Cool Blue on a number of new accounts. The team has shown great insight to get to grips with some challenging and complex briefs – and great creativity to bring them alive for our target audience. The ‘superheroes’ in our Go Digital campaign are helping many more people to get online take advantage of the city’s superfast broadband. The strategic and dynamic approach to PR resulted in a substantial amount of editorial in key titles across Tyne and Wear. Social media activity for the programme also increased significantly, providing a sound platform for future campaigns and engagement.
