Everyday I work with aspects of a brand, whether it’s working on brand guidelines or making sure that a job for one of our clients stays on brand.
A typeface is very important in showing what the specific brand encompasses, so it caught my eye when I read that YouTube had created its very own brand typeface.
YouTube Sans is their first typeface, which has been inspired by the company’s play button logo and is aiming to be ‘quirky & expressive’ as well as ‘simple & bold’.
The new brand typeface has letters that are rounded like the corners of the outer square while also using the triangle in the centre to create the diagonal cuts. With new typeface the play button logo was redrawn and transformed in to a glyph.
In essence I think this is a good move for a company that is mainly known for videos more than anything else.
