Our key takeaways from Global Offshore Wind 2025

The offshore wind sector is facing a period of uncertainty, driven by new regulations, rising supply chain costs and shifting policy incentives. These challenges, and the opportunities they create, were front and centre at this year’s Global Offshore Wind 2025 conference in London.

With more than 5,000 attendees, 200+ speakers and global representation from over 50 countries, the industry gathered to reflect on current pressures and look ahead to the next phase of growth.

Here are our key takeaways from the conference and what they mean for organisations navigating today’s renewable energy landscape:

The UK is serious about scaling

The headline announcement came from Secretary of State for Energy, Ed Miliband, who confirmed that Great British Energy, the UK’s new publicly owned clean power company, will partner with The Crown Estate and the wind industry to invest £1 billion into strengthening the UK offshore wind supply chain. The Crown Estate will contribute £400 million of this total, supporting new manufacturing facilities, port infrastructure and domestic capability.

The new incentive introduced for Allocation Round 7 of the Government’s Contracts for Difference scheme, the Clean Industry Bonus, reflects this sentiment by rewarding projects which support UK-based supply chains with additional revenue support.

‘Mission: Possible’, where urgency facilitates opportunity

The conference theme, ‘Mission: Possible’, summed up the tone of the event: bold, urgent and focused on delivery. Labour used the conference to reaffirm its commitment to renewables, with plans to power the nation solely from clean energy by 2030.

This target, while ambitious, was met with cautious optimism. Stakeholders recognised the scale of the challenge ahead but also noted the growing momentum behind offshore wind as a cornerstone of achieving that goal.

Importantly, urgency is creating opportunity. The conference made clear that achieving the UK’s clean energy goal will depend on the sector’s ability to deliver at scale and speed. Offshore wind and renewables businesses that can clearly demonstrate their role in enabling this delivery will be best placed to secure contracts and contribute to meeting the 2030 target.

Innovation is rising to combat economic pressure

Rising costs, regulatory delays and supply chain bottlenecks are squeezing project margins. On the upside, the demand for cost efficiencies, spurred by these challenges and the push for an accelerated rollout of renewable energy across Europe, is encouraging innovation.

Floating wind remains a key focus across the sector and is increasingly seen as the future of offshore deployment. It enables businesses to fast-track installation in deeper waters and increase revenue streams.

Digital technologies were also a prominent theme throughout the conference. Digital twins were discussed in multiple sessions, recognised for their ability to use real-time data to detect issues early and support maintenance. AI is also gaining traction across the industry, helping to streamline operations like health and safety optimisation, port operation logistics and automated inspections.

These advancements signal where investment is likely to concentrate in the years ahead, reinforcing that the sector is ready to adapt in the face of uncertainty.

At Cool Blue, we believe the announcements and discussions at Global Offshore Wind 2025 outline the sector’s need for world-class communications.  From brand strategy to digital content and beyond, we’re working with the renewable energy sector to shape narratives that build trust, open doors and support the sector’s projected growth.

If your offshore wind business is ready to stand out in a fast-moving market, we’d love to talk. Contact us today.
